About Us

The Society was founded many years ago by cavers in the London area – hence its name Chelsea. However we now have around 100 members from all over the UK. Our club cottage is ‘Whitewalls’, situated on the hillside above Llangattock, near Crickhowell in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Here we have some of the longest caves in the UK right on our doorstep, with the large and varied cave systems of Agen Allwedd and Daren Cilau within easy walking distance of the cottage and Ogof Draenen and Ogof Craig a Ffynnon only a short drive away, and many other caves within easy reach.

We have regular away trips to other caving regions with weekends in North Wales, Mendip, Yorkshire, Derbyshire and other caving areas, with occasional foreign trips too. Regular annual events include the Annual Dinner and AGM, Summer BBQ Weekend, Curry Night and Bonfire Weekend.

Other caving interests and activities within the club include cave diving, digging, surveying, conservation and photography. Many members partake in other outdoor pursuits such as kayaking, climbing, cycling or walking, for which Whitewalls also makes an excellent base.

We welcome new members and have a good mix of experience, knowledge and abilities within the club, so there’s always a variety of caving trips going on – from novice friendly to more challenging adventures.
