There are regular club meets to suit all abilities, with something going on at least once a month. We have a number of ‘home meets’ based at Whitewalls, our club hut in Llangattock, plus a selection of ‘away meets’ to a variety of caving regions all around the country and sometimes abroad.

2022 Reports and Photos

January

28th-30th January – Annual Dinner and AGM

This year we return to The Old Rectory Hotel in Llangattock for the CSS Annual Dinner, with Martyn Farr as our guest speaker. Saturday’s caving trips include Craig a Ffynnon and also Agen Allwedd for the Annual Bat Count. The AGM will be held on Sunday at 11am in Crickhowell Village Hall.

February

25th-27th February – Mendip Meet

Three days of caving with accommodation at the Shepton Mallet Caving Club hut in Priddy. Leaders are booked for a selection of trips including Wookey Hole, St Cuthbert’s Swallet, Upper Flood Swallet and Charterhouse Cave.

March

25th-27th March – Whitewalls Meet

The plan for Saturday is a journey around some of the interesting caves in the environs of Trefil Quarry, including Ogof Ap Robert, Garn y Bica and Ogof Tarddiad Rhymney (subject to the weather being clement enough for the surface walk). There are also lots of other caving options for all abilities available.

April

22nd-24th April – West Wales Weekend

Staying at the South Wales Caving Club hut in Penwyllt and including trips that are a little too far afield to be comfortably done from Whitewalls. Saturday’s caving will include a trip to Llygad Llwchwr 1 and 2, and Sunday’s trip suggestion is Tunnel Cave.

29th April-2nd May – Bank Holiday Whitewalls Meet

Trips to be decided, but with plenty of caving options and other activities available there should be something for everyone.

May

23rd-29th May – Yorkshire Week

A full week of activities in the Yorkshire Dales staying at the YSS caving cottage in Helwith Bridge from Monday to Sunday. The general plan is to have a range of trips for all abilities and there’s also scope to include some non-caving pursuits too. Attendees are welcome to come along for either the full week or any days they have available. Permits have been organised for the following caves: Lancaster Hole, It’s a Cracker/Notts2, Death’s Head/Big Meanie, Car Pot, Pillar Holes, Notts Pot and Juniper Gulf. Contact Adrian Fawcett for more information

June

2nd-5th June – Bank Holiday Weekend at Whitewalls

Four days at Whitewalls and a mix of caving and work on the Old Daren Sunday school and Whitewalls. OFD permits have been arranged for all 4 days, so there’s scope for a selection of different trips on whichever day people want. Other caves are also available so bring along your ideas and enthusiasm. The Whitewalls and ODSS working task list will be put together beforehand, so contact Mike Read for further information or to volunteer your services.

17th-19th June – Mendip Meet and BBQ

Staying at the Shepton Mallet Caving Club hut in Priddy, with a BBQ planned for Saturday evening, so don’t forget to bring some food to incinerate and whatever drink you want. Caving trips for the weekend are yet to be decided, so contact Joe Duxbury if you have any trip suggestions.

July

15th-17th July – North Wales

A weekend of mine exploration staying at the Lancashire Caving and Climbing Club hut in Tanygrisiau, which is conveniently close to the big mines of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Trips are yet to be to be decided, but will almost certainly include a visit to one of the large slate mines of the area. Contact Matt Chinner for any trip requests or further information.

August

26th-29th August – Bank Holiday at Whitewalls including CaveFest

Caving trips to be decided but will include a Dan Yr Ogof Great North Road trip on the Sunday. Cavefest should also be happening this weekend and will be based in Crickhowell. See Cavefest UK on Facebook for more information.

September

September – Hidden Earth Caving Conference

EVENT CANCELLED

October

7th-9th  October – Derbyshire

Staying at the TSG hut in Castleton, which is very convenient for our trip to Peak Cavern on Saturday. There will be two different trips available, with one team doing the classic Peak Streamway trip (suitable for all abilities) and other doing a burlier trip involving SRT, probably the White River Series. P8 is the suggested trip for Sunday. For more information contact Andy Heath, the organiser of this event.

November

4th-6th November – Bonfire Weekend at Whitewalls

Fire, frolics and caving fun. Caving trips to be decided, but it will include a range of options for all abilities. As usual there’ll be a communal feast for after the fireworks, barrels of beer and a huge bonfire to enjoy.

December

2nd-4th December – Whitewalls Curry Night

The annual evening of homemade curry delights and a selection of caving trips to work up an appetite. Bring along a curried concoction to share on Saturday, be it a vat of curry, a spicy side-dish or some tasty sundries.

Additional trips may be added during the year, so check out the CSS website and members’ ProBoards and Facebook page for updates.
