After the success of last year’s working week we thought we’d repeat the event! This took place on the Monday – Friday prior to the Summer Barbecue weekend, with a task list to suit all skill levels and lots of glorious sunshine.
An amazing number of tasks were completed throughout the week by the 14 members who came along to put their DIY skills to the test, while also socialising in the sun. Plenty of work was done to both the inside and outside of the cottage, along with levelling of the parking areas and smartening up the garden. The Whitewalls porch received a lot of improvements, with the roof rebuilt with insulation, new tiles and leading fitted. It was also repainted both inside and out and the door spruced up and repaired. The kitchen was another area that saw a lot of work done, with door frames rebuilt, the fitting of new fire doors, and the entire kitchen painted bright yellow. Other areas repainted include the walls and ceilings in the toilets, skirting boards and most of the door frames throughout the cottage. The tackle store now has smart new shelving for kit storage, while the understairs tackle cupboard now has a step to prevent water ingress when mopping the floor. Numerous other tasks were completed including plenty of cleaning, pipe rodding/drain clearing, log cutting and other general maintenance.
A short caving trip was also squeezed in on Thursday evening, with a niche Aggy through trip from the original Agen Allwedd entrance to the familiar entrance of Ogof Gam. The team also enjoyed a meal of Jamaican/Welsh cuisine at the local pub The Horseshoe Inn in Llangattock, and an additional barbecue during the week.
