With most of the renovation of the Old Darren Sunday School complete, it was high time Whitewalls was also given a spruce up. So with a list of tasks for all skill levels, a team of willing helpers and beer and cider on tap, plenty of good work was done on the five days leading up to the summer barbecue weekend.
A good number of members gave both their time and their skills to the task of smartening up our club hut. Painting was one of the more obvious jobs that needed doing, and the walls and ceilings of both bunkrooms were repainted, as well as those in the kitchen, common room and stairway. Other tasks completed inside the cottage included varnishing the tables, fitting a new section of steel worktop in the kitchen, replacing uneven tiles on the common room floor and fitting an extractor fan in the downstairs toilet.
Another major objective was painting the exterior fascia boards all around the cottage. Luckily the sun was shining for much of the week, so this was successfully achieved. Many other outdoor jobs were undertaken, including repairing and varnishing the exterior library and changing room doors and frames, painting the utility double doors and side gates, oiling the front door and bench, and replacing the flagstones by the porch. The garden was also tidied, with improvements made to the fencing and the path to the small camping area. This was an incredibly constructive five days of work. Thank you very much to everyone who took part.
