The working week was followed by the annual Summer BBQ Weekend at Whitewalls, where the sun continued to shine on a barbecue feast following a selection of caving trips on Saturday.
Caving exploits started on Friday with an Agen Allwedd trip to Iles Inlet and The Courtesan. The working week was also still in progress, so many jobs were also completed at Whitewalls. The main Saturday caving trip was to Dan yr Ogof, with enough participants to split into two teams. Both groups undertook the round trip in alternative directions, with diversions to The Risings and Mazeways along the way. The teams also volunteered their services to transport some replacement buoyancy jackets destined for the Green Canal into the cave. Another Saturday trip, also making the most of the current low water levels, was a circuit around Little Neath River Cave.
There was also a digging trip to Pwll Estrys, with further shoring and fixed ladders installed in the shaft as well as working at the dig face, and an investigative digging trip was also made to The Promised Land in Ogof Craig a Ffynnon. Other members made the most of the pleasant weather and went walking. All activities were followed by sunshine and barbecue food in the Whitewalls garden, complete with accompanying buffet, beer and cider.
Sunday’s caving trips included Ogof Rhyd Sych - with its notoriously tight and awkward entrance series, a sporting Aggy Grand Circle and Maytime trip, and a foray into Eglwys Faen.
