A weekend of local caving based at Whitewalls with a festival of sausages and cider on the Saturday evening.
The weekend’s activities began on Friday with a visit by the bat counting team to Chartists Cave on the moors of Llangynidr. Friday also saw the start of a two night digging camp in Daren Cilau, with a nine-strong CSS digging team heading into the cave during Friday and Saturday, either camping at HRC or as a day-trip.
A trip to the Waterfall Series in Ogof Draenen was also undertaken on the Saturday, visiting the interesting passages and aragonite formations of Yes Passage/Knees Up Mother Brown to Lost River Passage, and also Padlock Passage and Bolder Land. Meanwhile, back in Llangattock others were enjoying the niche wonders of some smaller caves, exploring Ogof Pen Eryr and Ogof Gwaliau Gwynion, while another team embarked on the Daren Cilau to Ogof Cnwc through-trip.
On Saturday evening the club enjoyed its first ever Sausage and Cider event with participants bringing along their choice of sausages and cider to share. Hearty servings of mash, rolls, gravy and sauces were provided, along with two boxes of cider. After the dinner Martyn Farr gave an educational and entertaining talk about the caves of North America and his 50 year anniversary trip to visit the caving wonders of this continent.
Caving trips on Sunday included another bat count, this time to Ogof Cynnes on the moors of Llangynidr. The remaining Daren diggers also emerged during the day after a productive weekend extending a number of digs heading into the unknown.
