A weekend at Whitewalls with variety of different caving trips, bat counting, and the club’s Annual Dinner and AGM.
The first trip of the weekend was to Busman’s Holiday in Daren Cilau via Ogof Cnwc on Friday, as part of the annual bat count. This was continued on Saturday with the traditional Aggy bat count in the Entrance Series and associated side passages. Other trips heading into Agen Allwedd included a relatively gentle foray to the Music Room and Main Passage and a more arduous trip transporting scaffold bars along Southern Stream Passage and Priory Road to the dig at Donovan’s Grief – the site of the current efforts to connect the two major cave systems of Daren Cilau and Agen Allwedd. Meanwhile another team headed over to the Black Mountain area for an SRT trip in the multi-pitch pothole of Pwll Dwfn, including the side passage of Poachers Passage halfway down Fifth Pitch.
After the various caving adventures it was time for the club’s Annual Dinner, which was once again held in the excellent venue of The Bear in Crickhowell. The three course meal was accompanied by a photo slide show of club activities during 2025 and a prize raffle collecting funds for the South and Mid Wales Cave Rescue Team, followed by a presentation by Joel Foyster covering the recent major extensions in Red House Swallet in the Forest of Dean. Sunday saw a return to Crickhowell for the Annual General Meeting, which took place in the village hall.
We would like to extend our thanks to Tony Seddon from Starless River for generously donating the raffle prize in aid of SMWCRT.
