Whitewalls Weekend February 2025

A weekend of caving fun at Whitewalls with a combined 263rd birthday celebration on the Saturday evening.

Saturday’s main caving trip was to Tunnel Cave in the Black Mountain area. After a bit of a trek to the cave, the entrance pitch was rigged for SRT and the team abseiled in to begin the journey towards Cathedral Cave in the Dan yr Ogof complex. This was reached via a collection of traverses and roof tubes, passing some interesting formations along the way. A view down into Davy Price’s Hall in Cathedral Cave was had at the end, before returning by the same route to prussik back up to the surface.

Ogof Clogwyn was also visited on Saturday, and this short but pleasant caving trip in the Clydach Gorge included a detour into the historic Gelli Felin tunnels nearby. Meanwhile, another team made a digging trip to continue work in the Priory Road/Iles Inlet area of Agen Allwedd.

Back at Whitewalls in the evening the joint 263rd birthday of Mel, John, Stuart and Chris was celebrated, starting with a red wine tasting session. This was followed by a choice of dinners and desserts, birthday cakes and a barrel of beer, and a good time was had by all. On Sunday a group of members made a caving trip to Ogof Draenen, which was sportingly wet in the entrance series, visiting Gilwern Passage and sections of the Waterfall Series.
